UTEP Edge Team Champion 2024-2025
The Computer Science Department was honored with the UTEP Edge Team Champion Award at the UTEP Edge Symposium for its outstanding work in promoting student engagement through the implementation of Edge practices. This recognition highlights the department's significant and measurable impact on student success and is especially meaningful because it resulted from receiving the most student nominations.
The department is dedicated to supporting student organizations, hosting workshops, sponsoring students to conferences, and engaging in outreach activities that positively impact both our student community and the broader El Paso region. This success is the result of years of effort in building a strong Student Engagement Team committed to these initiatives. It would not have been possible without the dedication of our exceptional staff, faculty, and students.

Student Engagement & Support
- Weekly newsletters providing students with career, scholarship, and networking opportunities.
- Strong mentorship programs connecting students with industry professionals.
- Financial and logistical support for students attending major conferences.
Leadership in Student Organizations
- Active support for CS student-led groups such as ACM, ACM-W, CIC, Google Developer Student Club, GWC, Miners Cyber Security Club, and more.
- Sponsorship of technical workshops, hackathons, and coding challenges.
Experiential Learning & Career Preparation
- Collaboration with top companies for internships, industry visits, and networking events.
- Training and sponsorship for student teams competing in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC).
- Cybersecurity outreach programs to support high school students in cybersecurity competitions.
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Hosting free summer camps in cybersecurity and AI for middle and high school students.
- Providing structured career development programs to equip students with technical and professional skills.
